Celebrating and sustaining the Edinburgh Fringe Festival… in sheds

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2020 is cancelled. Instead we bring you SHEDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL: a brand new online festival presenting the very best of the Fringe stalwarts of theatre, music and comedy, and the best new acts, all performed live from sheds across the country and streamed into people’s homes this August. 

At a time when venues face an uncertain future and artists are struggling SHEDINBURGH will shout loud about the Fringe’s vital role in global culture, celebrate its past successes and breakthrough artists and provide a platform for the talent that would have been on this year.  

All proceeds raised from SHEDINBURGH ticket sales will go into a fund to support new artists to bring their work to the Edinburgh Festival in 2021 – A SHED LOAD OF FUTURE – sustaining and reinvigorating the Fringe’s future beyond this year. 

The SHED-ULE

HOW IT WORKS

SHEDINBURGH is a programme of streamed socially distanced live performances from sheds based at The Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, Soho Theatre in London, or from the homes of those artists unable to travel at this time.

Performances are streamed only once and will not be repeated. 
You have only one opportunity to watch. To do that, you’ll need to get yourself a ticket!

When you book you will be sent a unique zoom link ahead of your performance, so you can watch any of the line up from the comfort of your own home (or shed).

Acts have been asked to revive and reimagine past performances for a shed, rather than a theatre, with minimal staging and a digital audience. A challenge worthy of the Fringe, our performers are taking on quite the task.

SHED-ULE

Ticket sales are limited. Do not wait to book a ticket because it will probably be gone by tomorrow. Performances will not be repeated – there is only one opportunity to watch each performance! Most shows start at 7.30pm but some later.

Francesca is an award-winning and Olivier Nominated Theatre Producer with over ten years experience having produced theatre at the Edinburgh Festival, in London, on tour in the UK and internationally.

Gary McNair is a multi-award-winning writer and performer from Glasgow. His last six Edinburgh Festival shows have all sold out, and has three times won the coveted Scotsman Fringe First Award.

COMEDY CONSULTANT

Madeleine Bye is a comedy producer and PR. She has produced over 10 Edinburgh Fringe shows in the last 5 years as well as 4 Soho Theatre shows and a host of alternative comedy nights. She is a graduate of Parisian clown school Ecole Philippe Gaulier and one half of comedy double act ‘Siblings’.

Casey Jay Andrews

DESIGN CONSULTANT

Casey Jay Andrews is a multi-award winning writer, designer and theatre-maker based in the South East of England (though her heart is planted firmly in Edinburgh’s Old Town). She is currently working as Assistant Head of Design at PUNCHDRUNK INTERNATIONAL, and head of design for ONE NIGHT RECORDS.

Perform your cancelled Edinburgh show at SHEDINBURGH

One of the best things about the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is discovering new shows you didn’t know about until you got there. We’re gutted to be missing out on all the incredible shows that were set to grace the many stages of Edinburgh this August. So we’re offering TWO slots in the festival to emerging companies, performers and writers across the programme.

Applicant requirements:

  • The proposed show must be a one-person performance
  • The proposed show must have been originally programmed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for 2020, prior to its cancellation
  • Applicant must be a professional new-comer, their cancelled show having been their first ever performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
  • The performance of the show must abide by social distancing guidelines, without a live physical audience
 

Applications will close on 15 August.
